Convoy, that make
many fine (but hard-to-get) WW1 kits, now
have
their own site!
Cromwells

recommend that you order them from

webpage. Fine Scale Factory

SPECIAL TIP 1: Suppliers
Jadar Models in Poland is a very fine
general supplier where you can
find otherwise hard-to-get kits and accessories from Eastern Europe.
They have
a fine site, and very good service. Higly recommended!
Blitzkrieg Models in the UK is firm with a nice range and fast service, and
a lot of otherwise hard to get kits, like MGM and Bull Models:
see their home page.
Another European Supplier with a wide range and a good stock at hand
(i.e. fast delivery) is 7th Company in
Portugal! The French firm of
Special East
is another European Supplier with an impressive range and good stock ready at
hand.
Tracks & Troops in the
Czech Republic have a
*very* wide range of 1/72-76 scale resin kits, including many of the above
mentioned companies. Hobbyterra in the Ukraine is a supplier of kits from the ex-USSR
countries and they have a very
good site. I have tried them, and their service is really
first-rate. Their prices are super! Hannants in the UK are of course one of the biggest model
suppliers you can find on the
web. Reliable albeit a bit slow, perhaps.
SPECIAL TIP 2: Matador, of course
A manufacturer that I think is of special interest to modelers of WW1 Military Models is
Matador Models in the UK. Besides the AFV kits mentioned
above, they also sell WW1 soft skins kits, artillery pieces - including Limbers and Gun Crew -, AFV
accessories, like Fascines and tracks for the Mk:s I to IV. They can be bought through the
Scale Link hompage. They also
have their
own site. and they can be reached via
e-mail.
SPECIAL TIP 3: More Suppliers
The German supplier United Fun
that carries a large range of 1/72-76 scale
kits, both resin and plastic, from among others Cromwell, Kora, Milicast, CMSC and
Emhar. Another German
supplier of smallscale military kits is Smallscale.de. And yet another interesting supplier is
MC Modelbau in
Germany, and a new one in Britain
showing promise is Lone Wolf
Models.
SPECIAL TIP 4: Figures
If you need some men to supplement your WW1
Military models then you MUST take a look at IT Miniatures EXTENSIVE
figure range. (But note, that they also make quite a number of vehicles,
artillery and even some tanks - wargaming style.) I tell you: their range is
second to none when it comes to subjects! Here you can find such things as
Italian Arditi, i.e. Storm Troopers, Austro-Hungarian Artillery Crew and Russian
Imperial Army Staff. And lots of others. Check
them out!
Also, the very impressive WW1 range
of HÄT is now perhaps the best you can find, and it keeps expanding! DO NOT
MISS IT! HÄT is a must for anyone who needs WW1 Figures in Braille Scale.
And if you need 1/72 scale figures, I can think of no better place than
the Polish firm Kamrat - they have an
excellent site and sell figures from all manufacturers, including some ones that
are pretty hard to get.
SPECIAL TIP 5: Magazine
The French bilingual magazine "Minitracks",
is dedicated solely to 1/72-76 Scale AFV Modelling, and that alone makes it
worth reading and supporting. In addition to this, it covers WW1 Military
subjects better than any other magazine on the market. So get it! Klick on the
logo below to visit their site:
SPECIAL TIP 6: Hobby Shops
The Internet is a blessing for us modellers: you can get pretty much anything
through Internet Mail Order. But there are also shops. And sometimes, when you
travel, it can be both fun & worthwhile to visit some of the shops. Here are
some of the shops that we can recommend:
Paris have several fine Modelling Shops. Azimut on 113, rue
Turenne is nice and well-stocked. (Metro Place de la Republique) EuroMaquette on 88, rue de Charenton
(Metro Gare de Lyon) is perhaps the largest model store I've ever seen, very
well organized and with an impressive selection.
In London Hannant's famous shop out in Colindale, has now closed...
