WW1 AFV:s in smalle scale, well how esoteric can you get? But still, a sign
that even this field of modelling has reached some sort of maturity, is the
apperance of photo-etched sets, to detail and supplement existing kits, in
this case RPM:s fine FT-17. There are two types of sets: one for the round,
cast, so called Berliet turret, another for the square, riveted turreted
version. In most details these sets are the same, regardless of turret. Click
below on the thumbnail, to see a scan of what you get, and also the different
plans:
What can be said of these sets? They are well done and accurate, although I
believe that the tools - like all PE fret tools - will look far too flat, and
are better replaced. I for one is a little sceptical regarding PE frets: they
DO deliver some great detail, that few of us would ever do using plastic or
tin foil - just look at that chain in this set! My problem, however, is that I
enjoy the detiling work a bit too much, and I think that these frets rob me of
some of my building pleasure! This is up to the individual modeller, but if
you wamt to build a super-detailed FT-17 to win a competetion, then you simply
must get one of these sets!
