  Schneider CA.1 Char de Ravitaillement

It was soon obvious that the first French tank, the Schneider CA.1, was a very poor design, in pretty much all aspects. Already at the end of May 1917, after the delivieries of the tank had reached 322, production started to slow down.

Especially since the excellent Renault FT-17 entered service, the question arose what to do with many of the old CA.1's.

Inspired by the British Supply Tanks, some were converted into Char de Ravitaillement, to carry stores to the troops in the front lines.

The conversion was a pretty simple job. The MG's and the short howitzer was removed, the MG openings faired over, and a small cargo door installed where the gun used to sit.

 The Model

shows this cargo variant, and is built from Retrokits new and very good resin kit of the Schneider CA.1. The conversion was as easy in this model as in real life: the MG's faired over, the gun substituted for a flat door. a piece of cake really. Click on the thumbnails to see more.
