When the War started in 1914, the German Army could field 216 of these big
guns, and they were used from the very first days of combat. It was then used with effect on all fronts, primarily in the Regiments of the Fuss-Artillerie, as one of the standard weapons of indirect
heavy fire and support. When the war came to an end in 1918, the 21 cm Howitzers of the German Army had fired some 7 million
shells. (Click here for more information on this
important artillery piece.)
This kit of the Mörser is made by It Miniatures (former IT
Figures), and is aimed at the
wargaming market, and that shows. It is, as you can see, pretty basic. (Click at
the thumbnail, to see a photo of the kit. And click
here, to see the plan of the kit.) But when it comes to wargaming kits, a
good kit is one that can be used as a sound basis for further detailing. The BIG
problem with this one however, is that is wrong in scale: i judge to gun to be
more like 1/65 than 1/76! I can't really recommend it, because of that - unless
scale is secondary. And in that case: be prepared for a LOT of detail work.
This kit can be ordered direct from It
