1.
Here are the parts, laid up. And there are plenty of them, as
you can see. But "No Panic, No Panic", to quote corpral Jones
in "Dad's Army". You will need to sort them out, and that is
not too difficult. Also: there is a minimum of flash, so the
cleaning up will be fairly easy! |
|
 |
2.
First parts have been glued together: the two tracks and the
bottom of the chassis. And here we see a problem: the traylike
shape of the bottom chassis, not extending to the tracks and
meeting the superstructure - the big square thing waiting in
the background. |
|
 |
3.
This is a problem, because it makes it tricky to fit the
superstructure parts (no's 3. 4A, 4B, 5A & 5B) on the chassis
without resting directly on the tracks - that will look ugly. Especially the two
drivers cabs (5A & 5B) will be troublesome to place properly.
Note: the numbers given are my own device. Also, there will be
a slight gap between the superstructure and the tracks. |
|
 |
4.
Well, before solving it, that requires putting the
superstructure in place, the Engine must be inserted. Here you
have the four parts of the kits engine. You could very well
detail it much more, with exhaust pipes etc, but as little of
this will be seen in the completed model, I will satisfy
myself with just the kit parts. |
|
 |
5. Here the engine is in place.
The two Drivers Cabs are awaitin their placement. Regarding
their interior: the one on the left should have the steering
wheel, the one on the right levers only -
see
this picture! The chassis "tub" look awfully bare, but
don't fret: most of it will simply disappear under the cargo. |
|
 |
6.
The trick with the Drivers Cabs, is to first put the piece of
track covers (marked 4A & 4B) in place, and secure them on the
inside, as it were, with small strips of plastic cards. (Notice:
place them with the "notches" facing outwards.) And when they
are secured...
(PS. Notice the plastic card
pieces blanking off the back interior. They were later
finished off with strips of plastic.) |
|
 |
7.
... glue the Drivers Cabs onto the track cover ends - see the
pic to the left. This is a pretty flimsy attachment, though,
and you will have to secure the Drivers Cabs as well, and like
the Track Covers secure them on the inside with small strips
of plastic cards, making sure that you leave a small gaps to
the tracks. |
|
 |
8.
The loading cradle (consisting
of three parts) goes in there in the loading bay. I have
not glued it stuck yet.. On the Supply version it was usually
retracted, on the Gunb Carrier version extended. |
|
 |
9.
My kit lost quite a few details on the sides due to careless
handling, so I had to replace them: they are the ones in white
(plastic card) or grey (lead wire). (And then I got careless,
and squashed the hooks once more. Oh, well...) |
|
 |
10.
The kit is noticably complete when it comes to different
details. The only exception to this is the rear, where at
least some models had side mudguards, joining the top ones,
that also had small angled side plates. These I added. Also I
added mesh to the small air ventilation on both sides of the
door. The exhaust pipe to the silencer also waits to be added. |
|
 |
11. And here it is ready for
painting. |
|
 |
12. And here much of the
painting have been done. First the paint proper, then the
black wash (producing the shade effect), afterwards tempered
first by a drybrush of brown, and then with a drybrush of
sand, to produce highlights. The tracks have also been painted.
The weathering reamins to be done. |
