The German firm of Fine Scale factory makes some very good WW1 Artillery kits, perhaps lacking in the finer detail, but always accurate in outlie and shape, and an excellent basis for further detailing. (By the way: ALL artillery kits on the market are lacking in detail.) But their version of the 7.7cm Feldkanone 96 n.A., the work horse of the German Artillery during WW1, is a disappointment. It does contain some detail that is lacking in the offerings of other firms, like cranking wheels and handle bars for the shield riders. And the foldable underpart of the shield. And that is of course good. But - and this is a BIG but - the kit dimensions are completely wrong. The wheels are a bit too small, while the barrel and cradle are much, much to BIG! Overall it is not 1/72 in scale, but more like 1/60! Except for the wheels: they are more like 1/76!
This is the real snag with this kit. If a kit lacks detail but is accurate in dimensions and outline, then that's no big problem. Details can always be added - that's even one of the fun parts of this hobby! But if a kit is so way off in dimensions like this one, then there is nothing to do, than just to dump it. Sorry, but I can only say beware! Get EMHAR:s offering instead. |
