A Feldkanone 96 n.A. firing

On this short movie, you can see an authentic piece of WW1 footage, showing a FK 96
n.A. being fired. Points to notice are:
  • The gunner to the far left, holding the spike, pressing the spur into the ground, thus reducing the effect of the recoil
  • The gun layer, sitting facing the shield, i.e. the dial sight
  • The gun commander, behind the gun layer, checking the setting of the dial sight
  • The breech operator, sitting the the right, opening the breech
  • The gunner that is hiding the breech at the start of the clip: he has just loaded a (long) shell, he then sits down
  • The other gunner handling a shell, standing at ready

Notice also:

  • The branches being used as camouflage

  • The gun number painted on the shield, mostly hidden by the breech operators head: "5"

  • The wicker crates in the lower right corner, holding the shells

  • The caisson, just visible in the right edge of the picture
