Banderas 1/72 Russian 76.2mm m/02 Field Gun

The Putilov 76.2mm m/02 Field Gun is an important gun. It made up the mainstay of the Russian Army's artillery during the Great War, and was then used by the Soviet Army well into WW2, even though it was pretty obsolete by then. (Despite this, it was still used in the 70-ies by the North Vietnamese.)

Any collection of WW1 artillery shouldn't be without one. The kits are few and far between, and Bandera should be applauded for giving us one. But here the applause ends, I'm afraid. Bandera caters for the Wargaming market, and should of course not be compared with, say Cromwell or Al.By - two companies that also have produced Great War Artillery in this scale. Still, I think this kit is VERY crude, even by Wargaming standards. Like other Bandera kits, it is made in White Metal, and comes with the basic components: Gun tube, Trail, Wheels, Shield - two parts - and sighting gear.

These are the components of the kit

Banderas 122mm Howitzer m/10 was also crude, but could still be made into a passable kit with some work. In this case: forget it. I don't think it's possible to list all the faults.

It's easier to say what is correct. That is the wheels. The rest is wrong in some way or another: the barrel being to loong, the shield lacking one of it's components, and also lacking in detail, the axles are straight insted of angled - which gave the Putilov it's characteristic low sit. You don't get any seats, the breech is just a blob, the hollowed out part in the trail - for the recoil - is wrongly placed and wrongly shaped, the trails end doesn't resemble the real life counterpart at all.

If it hadn't been for the marking on the zip-lock bag it came in, I wouldn't have KNOWN that this was a Putilov 76.2mm Field Gun. But as I said: the wheels are pretty nice - bu then again: the hubs are all wrong... Don't bother.
